Felt Raccoon Hair Clip

Hello!  This would be my first arts and craft tutorial post so please let me know if something is unclear!
Today I will be teaching you how to make a Racoon Hairclip out of felt!

You will need:

  • Felt - Light brown, Dark brown, and White
  • Fabric Binder Clip
  • Some Thread
  • A Needle
  • A pair of Scissors
  • A Glue Gun
  • Stuffing

Stack two equal size pieces of light brown felt together.  This will be the head!
Using a crayon,  draw an oval (square, rectangle, triangle... whatever you want!) the size of how big you want your raccoon's noggin to be.  The outline doesn't need to be perfect because you can just flip both pieces over to hide them :)
Cut out your two pieces (cutting them at the same time will ensure they are roughly the same size)
With the dark brown felt, it would be easier to make an outline using a lighter colored crayon.  Here you want to cut out some "n" shaped ears (make them longer than you want so there is space to sew them on), the raccoon eye mask, and cute little triangle nose.  You may cut out a mouth if you'd like, but I have decided to stitch on the mouth detail today.  Most of the time, my animals don't even have mouths!
Using the Glue Gun, stick the Eye Mask and nose on one of the felt head pieces.
Place the ear on the second head piece like so.
You want to start stitching on this piece first to hide the knot.
Once you have pulled all the way though, sandwich on the first head piece with the face on it.
Begin sewing in an in and out motion attaching the two head pieces together.
Stop when you reach the area where you want to place the second ear.
 Stick that bugger in there!
Continue sewing all around until you are about 3/4th done.
Gather your stuffing material.  You can either get stuffing material or even just leftover felt pieces.
 Stuff with fluff!
Sew the rest shut.  Your last stitch should come out through the middle between the first face piece and the ear.  This way you can tie the knot in secret again. (heehee)
We now need to allow your chubby Raccoon to see.  Felt Eyes are the answer! Attach the with a Glue Gun.
Mesmerizing no?  Now that I look at it long enough it kinda scares me.
Dab some of the Glue Gun Glue on the back of the Raccoon Head and place the Fabric Binder Clip on.
I personally didn't like seeing the glue ooze out like that so I cut out a leaf to put on it.
If the Glue oozes out from under your cover up felt, you can trim off the excess glue when it dries.
Now you are ready to stick on a cute little child! (Or in my case, a 23 year old korean-drama-watching-old-maniac.)

Alternatively, you can use googley eyes :)

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
